Redskins -Giants
Jim Zorn talked about having an upbeat tempo in the offense this year, but the Redskins offense was clearly not that high offense we expected. Jason Campbell still showing his uneasiness with Zorn’s West Coast sytem could not get into a rhythm even though there were moments of effectiveness in the passing game. Clinton Port rushed for 84 yards on 23 carries. The night was clearly about the defending Superbowl champions.
The first quarter was a tell tale sign of what the Redskins long night was going to be about, Jason Campbell and company couldn’t muster enough yards to make any first downs, three and out became the status quo for much of the first half. If it wasn’t for a borderline face mask penalty Washington pro ably wouldn’t have scored. The offense looked terrible and and the fans of our nations capitol can only hope for Washington to click in all gears and put this high powered offense into action.
Jason Campbell completed just 15-of-27 passes for 133 yards and the offense totaled just 11 first downs and 209 total yards while going 3-of-13 on third-down conversions. While Antwaan Randle El had 7 Rec. for 73 yards and Santanna Moss had 5 Rec. for 37 yards and Washington’s only touchdown.
“A team held us to three and out for over half the game,” said Redskins halfback Clinton Portis, who had 84 yards on 23 carries. “We have to be better than that.” Portis’s statement summed up the whole game in his stament for the skins. Now it’s time to watch the film and make the adjustments. I know it’s been said that Jason Campbell has had four differnt offensive coordinators in four years, but there has to be a line where Jason Campbell can take advantge of that experience and raise above to the caliber of being one the best quareterbacks in the NFL.
